MY PASSION
During the three years that I played professional golf on Tour,
I met and played with all levels of Club Golfers from around the
Globe. I was often asked the same questions…
“Todd, I’ve got this wretched slice and it's ruining my game…”
“Gee, I wish I could just get the ball away off the tee more consistently….”
“Every so often I will throw in a couple of bad holes….why is that?”
They were also eager to learn what else was involved in playing the
game – how I became an accomplished golfer, what sets us apart from
the scratch golfers and how we made that next step into the professional
golf ranks? These are common questions that we as Tour Professionals
often hear while on the road.
In my first year, even though I won my first major event as a Professional,
I didn’t always perform and failed to reach many of my goals. Focus
was a
problem and I even made silly bogeys that shouldn’t happen at Tour
level.
During some events I found myself wondering why I was even there.
I found myself answering my playing partners’ questions, explaining
different ways to play shots around the green, showing them how I
played that last low cut under the overhanging tree, or how I hit
the hook shot round the dog leg. I found I really enjoyed sharing
my knowledge with them, but it was to the detriment of my results
and the achievement of my goals. Experience taught me that the course
is not the place for a golfer to try and fix or fiddle with the technical
faults in his or her swing while competing in an event.
This is where and why I first got the idea for Horizon Golf Tours.
Next is my passion for my home country, New Zealand. It is where
I grew up and it will always be home. The amazing scenery, vibrant
culture, fine foods and award winning wines are things which make
this country incredibly unique, and it is wonderful to be able to
share this with the world through Horizon Golf Tours.
In the last five to ten years, New Zealand has seen golf course development
blossom and now showcases some the finest golf courses in the world!
World renowned golfers such as Peter Thompson and Jack Nicklaus have
stamped their mark with courses here, as well as known U.S billionaire
Julian Robinson, who has built two of the most spectacular courses
you will find anywhere in the world with Kauri Cliffs and Cape Kidnappers.
Deep in the hills of northern Hawkes Bay lies one of New Zealand’s
hidden treasures, Rotongaio Station. Rotongaio Station is owned
by Horizon Tours and is steeped in cultural history. It was originally
owned by the Maori Tuhoe in the early 1900’s, and used for returned
service men from the First World War. It spans over 4000 acres of
rolling grass lands with high cliffs and beautiful streamed valleys.
There are two lakes, with the main lake (Rotoroa) being 60 foot deep
and spring fed with an abundance of Rainbow trout. On its bank sits
the Rotongaio Lodge which is used exclusively for Horizon Tours.
I have combined my two passions in this amazing slice of New Zealand landscape
to create an environment of enjoyment, entertainment and an experience that I
know will be remembered for a life time. Golf is about so much more than just
swinging a club and it’s my goal to give people an insight into that. What better
way to do this than while you’re on your golfing holiday, in breathtaking surroundings
such as these. Whether it be during a full week of action and adventure both
on and off the golf courses, or during a relaxed getaway with that someone
special – this is experiencing the best that New Zealand has to offer.
On behalf of all the team here at Horizon Golf Tours, I would like
to thank you for taking the time to view our website and look
forward to the possibility of
meeting you sometime in the future.
Let your dreams become a reality….
