ABOUT TODD NICHOLSON
Todd Nicholson – Director and Founder
of Horizon luxury Golf Tours
Todd was born on 25 July 1980 in Wellington, New Zealand. He first started playing golf at age 12, along with many other sports throughout his teenage years. It wasn’t until age 17 that he started to take the game more seriously and had the realization that the game of golf was to be his life. He completed College and received the following accolades in his final year:
1998 – Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club Player Of The Year award and
youngest ever recipient. 9 matches, 8 victories & 1 halved match.
Wellington Province - College Golfer Of The Year award,
4th place National Secondary School Championships,
selected for National Elite Coaching School.
In 1999 he moved north to play for the Wanganui Golf Club and ventured out into the workforce. While employed at a nearby golf store during that first year, he found that it did not allow enough time for practice, so in 2000 he moved back to Wellington to play no.1 for the Royal Wellington Golf Club for three years. He worked nights at a nearby restaurant to allow time for practice during the day.
During his Amateur career he achieved the following:
- Runner-up Wanganui Open
- Two time Wellington Match Play champion
- Winner of Manor Park Open
- Runner up Bay of Plenty Open
- Runner up Amateur Fiji Open (professional event)
- Top 10 Fiji Open as an Amateur (professional event)
- Wellington Senior Representative 1999 – 2003
In 2003 he relocated to Melbourne, Australia to make the transition into Professional Golf. He made the decision to complete a three year Golf Professional Apprenticeship, which commenced in January 2004 at the Metropolitan Golf Club. It was during this time he achieved the following:
Two time winner of the Best Pro-Am Tournament of the year. Finished a successful three year traineeship in the top 10 percent.
In 2007 he moved to the United Kingdom for a year to compete on the Euro Pro Tour. He won the final stage of the Tour School and secured his ticket for the season. He also won a Pro-Am event soon after and made a few cuts throughout the year.
2008 saw a relocation back to Melbourne to compete in events around
Australia, New Zealand and the neighboring islands, where he played
full time during 2008 and 2009.
During that time he competed in four main tour events including the
Australian Masters against Tiger Woods, 21 secondary tour events
and a number of Pro-Am’s. He had a number of good finishes and made
eight cuts.
Todd is currently based at the Metropolitan Golf Club in Melbourne, and is devoting his time to Horizon Golf Tours.
